The Fraunhofer Insti­tute for Organic Elec­tron­ics, Elec­tron Beam and Plasma Tech­no­logy FEP is loc­ated in Dresden and focuses on devel­op­ing innov­at­ive solu­tions, tech­no­lo­gies and pro­cesses for sur­face modi­fic­a­tion and organic elec­tron­ics.
Our core tech­no­lo­gies are elec­tron beam tech­no­logy, sput­ter­ing tech­no­logy, plasma-activ­ated high-rate depos­ition, high-rate PECVD, and tech­no­lo­gies for organic elec­tron­ics and IC-/Sys­tem design, which we use to develop solu­tions for vari­ous indus­trial tasks in sur­face treat­ment, vacuum coat­ing and for organic semi­con­duct­ors.

As of Janu­ary 2020 we at Fraunhofer FEP offer an excit­ing pos­i­tion in the field of pre­ci­sion coat­ing as

Sci­ent­ist (m/f/v) as a group leader

Work­ing field:

In the field of pre­ci­sion coat­ing, sci­entific ques­tions are com­bined with tech­nical know-how. For the estab­lish­ment of a new work­ing group, we are look­ing for a group leader from pre­sum­ably Janu­ary 2020.
Within the new group, a mag­net­ron sput­ter­ing-based pro­cess for the depos­ition of epi­taxial thin films on sub­strates will be developed, tested for applic­a­tions in micro- and nano­elec­tron­ics and accom­pan­ied by cor­res­pond­ing mater­ial devel­op­ments. For this pur­pose, appro­pri­ate appar­atus struc­tures must first be set up and optim­ized in cooper­a­tion with exper­i­enced col­leagues. Sub­sequently, start­ing with fun­da­mental invest­ig­a­tions, con­crete applic­a­tions must be brought to indus­trial matur­ity.

Your tasks include, among other things:
  • Estab­lish­ment of a work­ing group
  • Tech­nical and organ­iz­a­tional man­age­ment of the work­ing group
  • pro­ject man­age­ment
  • Pro­ject acquis­i­tion (pub­lic fund­ing pro­jects and indus­trial pro­jects)
  • Super­vi­sion of doc­toral stu­dents and stu­dents
  • Exper­i­mental work on test facil­it­ies


  • Expert­ise in the fields of thin film tech­no­logy, epi­taxy and micro­elec­tron­ics
  • Suc­cess­ful uni­versity degree in phys­ics, elec­trical engin­eer­ing/elec­tron­ics, mater­i­als sci­ence or com­par­able to a com­pleted doc­tor­ate or com­par­able achieve­ment.
  • Very good com­mu­nic­a­tion skills in Eng­lish and prefer­ably also in Ger­man.
  • Sev­eral years of know­ledge and exper­i­ence in sci­entific and applic­a­tion-ori­ented work as well as in pro­ject acquis­i­tion with demon­strable achieve­ments (pub­lic­a­tions, pat­ents, ...)
  • An open man­ner and the abil­ity to approach poten­tial part­ners and get them excited about issues.
  • Com­mit­ted and self-reli­ant way of work­ing
  • Cre­ativ­ity, organ­iz­a­tional com­pet­ence, reli­ab­il­ity and open will­ing­ness to dis­cuss
  • Research desire and cre­at­ive will, res­ult and applic­a­tion ori­ent­a­tion

You should be able to work under pres­sure, be flex­ible and enjoy work­ing with people and hav­ing lead­er­ship respons­ib­il­it­ies. Your work­ing style should be char­ac­ter­ized by the con­tri­bu­tion of your own ideas and accur­acy in the pro­cessing of the tasks that arise.
Fur­ther­more, we expect strong organ­iz­a­tional skills, team spirit and a com­pet­ent and com­mit­ted man­ner in deal­ing with inter­na­tional sci­ent­ists, cus­tom­ers and pub­lic insti­tu­tions/spon­sors.
